Spring Break 2021 Travel Information

Spring Break Travel 2021

What You Need To Know To Enjoy Spring Break 2021

It’s that time again for Spring Break.  Last year’s Spring Break, like most everything, was interrupted or canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.  This year, students and families from all across the United States are gearing up to enjoy Spring Break, and to be honest, why not? We all deserve it.  Over the past year, we all have felt isolated, exhausted, frustrated, and just plain annoyed because of the pandemic.  Many college students' and families' lives were disrupted entirely by the pandemic, college dorms were shut down, schools were closed and families were forced to shelter in place.

A Brief History Of Spring Break

As the United States continues to make great strides in combatting the pandemic, the time is right to celebrate Spring Break.  So what is Spring Break?  Spring Break is usually a week-long break from colleges and k-12 schools across the United States and it occurs during the months of March through mid-April.  As noted by Travelmarketreport.com, Spring Break started back in the early 1930s.  When the Colgate College spring swim team began to travel to Fort Lauderdale for training.  Soon after, swimmers from all over the country started attending competitions all over Florida. By the 1950s, college students everywhere started heading south to spend the break close to the beach.  Wow, thanks, Colgate College, for creating spring break, and can you believe it’s been going on for over 90 years?

Popular Spring Break Destinations

It’s pretty cool to see that Spring Break started in Florida and it’s still one of the most popular travel destinations for spring breakers.  For generations, students and families have flocked to Florida to enjoy the sun and the beaches.  So, where are other popular spring break destinations?  According to U.S. News, the top ten Spring Break destinations are:

  • Cancun

  • Miami Beach

  • South Padre Island

  • Cabo San Lucas

  • Jamaica

  • Bahamas

  • Punta Cana

  • Playa del Carmen

  • Daytona Beach

  • Panama City Beach

Florida is still a top-rated Spring Break destination with three of the top ten places to visit.  Today, spring breakers are venturing out to Mexico and the Caribbean to enjoy themselves.  With seven out of ten top destinations.  Times have changed since the Colgate Swim team started the tradition of spring break. Students and families are not just visiting Florida anymore. They are now going international and enjoying themselves.

Why You Need Travel Insurance To Enjoy Spring Break

The first reason you need travel insurance to enjoy Spring Break 2021 is that it can be a requirement to enter a country.  For example, to enjoy the Bahamas, all international travelers must have some form of travel insurance to be allowed to enter.  The following important reason is that vacations are not cheap. Everyone who is traveling should protect their investments in their trip with a travel insurance policy to protect against unplanned events.  To mitigate against this risk, we highly recommend students and families going Spring Break this year to purchase a Trip Cancellation travel insurance plan.

A Trip Cancellation policy provides reimbursement for unused, non-refundable, pre-paid trip costs if you are prevented from taking your trip due to certain unforeseen events that prevent you from traveling, such as an illness.

Another form of insurance we recommend obtaining for your Spring Break vacation is trip interruption coverage. Trip interruption provides reimbursement for unused land and water activities along with additional transportation costs used to return home or rejoin your trip if something covered under the policy were to occur.

Spring Break is a great time to have fun and enjoy quality time with your family.  Just remember that a variety of things could happen to derail your travel plans and experience.  That is why you should reach out to Trawick International to obtain a customized travel insurance plan that will protect your Spring break experience. The Dominican Republic is the Perfect Getaway

If you are not familiar with the Dominican Republic, here are some interesting facts about the country to get you acquainted with the tropical destination. The Dominican Republic is the 2nd largest country in the Caribbean with coasts on both the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.

The Dominican Republic is just two hours away from Florida, four hours from New York, and eight hours from Europe.

COVID-19 Travel Information for the Dominican Republic

As reported by godominicanrepublic.com, aligning with the Responsible Tourism Recovery Plan's launch on September 15, 2020, travelers no longer need to provide a negative PCR or COVID-19 test upon arrival.  Instead, airports and other ports of entry will perform a quick, aleatory breath test to between 3% and 15% of passengers and all those who present symptoms upon arrival.  Passengers traveling from the United Kingdom to the Dominican Republic must submit a negative COVID-19 PCR test certificate issued not more than 72 hours before travel.  Travelers that arrive in the Dominican Republic without a negative PCR certificate are subject to COVID-19 testing upon arrival and must quarantine for the next seven days in a government facility.

Also indicated by godominicanrepulic.com, as of January 26, 2021, the Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism is offering complimentary viral antigen testing to all international visitors staying at a hotel to meet the new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) travel protocols requiring all travelers ages two and above returning to the United States to present proof of a negative PCR or viral COVID-19 test administered within 72 hours before departure. The complimentary viral test offering will be distributed at hotels across the country to travelers who qualify for the Free Health Coverage Plan.

Disney Travel 2021

Disney Travel 2021

Disney World is one of the most popular travel destinations in the United States. In 2019, over 20.9 million people visited Disney World, as noted by Statista.com.  Please remember that these numbers were before the pandemic occurred. Today, we are operating in the post-COVID-19 world that has changed the way people experience just about everything. This is even true to those visiting the most magical place on earth.

COVID-19 Regulations When Visiting Disney World

As reported on Disney World.disney.go.com, the following regulations must be followed to visit:

Enhanced Protective Measures:

Mandatory face coverings are required for both Cast Members and Guests ages two and older, with the addition of hand-washing stations and physical barriers, where appropriate

Physical Distancing:

Theme park capacity will be reduced to enable physical distancing and add appropriate signs to help guests move responsibly throughout the property.

Temperature Checks:

Before entering Disney World, all guests will have to go through a temperature screening. Also, health screenings and temperature checks will be required daily for Cast Members.

Limited-Contact Enhancements:

It is recommended for all Guests to use cashless payment options, including debit cards, credit cards, Disney Gift Cards, or Magic Bands.

Enhanced Cleaning and Sanitation:

Enhanced cleaning protocols have been implemented for your and your family's safety.

Park Reservations:

Because theme park capacity will be significantly limited to comply with governmental requirements and promote physical distancing, attendance will be managed through a new theme park reservation system that will require all Guests, including Annual Passholders, to obtain a reservation for park entry in advance.

Cost Savings While Visiting Disney World

To enjoy Disney World, you have to be prepared to spend money.  A trip to Disney World can add up fast. You have to pay travel expenses such as airfare or gas if you are driving and parking.  On top of lodging and meals for you and your family.  All of this is on top of the expenses to enter the park, pay for food and unique items while visiting Disney World.  For example, a family of four will have to pay $436 ($109 per person for the lowest day pass available) before taxes to experience Disney World.

We know that everyone has a different budget in mind, but we wanted to share a great resource called Inside the Magic to plan for your next trip to Disney World on a budget.  Inside the magic recommends that you take the following actions when visiting Disney World:

Visit on a Weekday:

If you want to see some significant savings on tickets for Walt Disney World theme parks, Disney often offers lower ticket prices during the week compared to the weekend.

Avoid Holidays:

The holiday season is one of the year’s busiest times at Walt Disney World. That means Disney’s dynamic pricing model to price out their admission tickets makes it very expensive during that time of year. Late November, December, and early January are all times of the year to avoid if you want to save money on tickets.

Consider an Annual Pass:

To Decide the ticket type that is right for you and your family, consider an Annual Pass to maximize savings if you plan to return to Walt Disney World in the next 12 months.

Make Sure Your Vacation Investment Is Protected

Before you put on those mouse ears and frequent Disney World, make sure you purchase a travel insurance plan designed to meet your family's needs.  We at Trawick International offer various plans that will help make your Disney World trip a long-lasting memory for you and your family.

Founded in 1998, Trawick International is a full-service travel insurance provider specializing in protecting travelers of all types worldwide.
