Travel Insurance For The Bahamas

Is travel insurance required to enter the Bahamas?

The short answer is yes. There are a few steps international travelers need to follow before entering the Bahamas.  This first step is to show a negative COVID-19 test.  Please note that children between the ages of 2 and 11 have to provide a negative COVID-19 test.  The next step is to sign up for the Bahamas Travel Health Visa Application and to opt-in to COVID-19 health insurance that covers them for the duration of their stay in The Bahamas.  The cost of insurance is included in the Bahamas Travel Health Visa application fee.  The cost of the Visa fee depends on the length of stay.

Why should you buy travel insurance to visit the Bahamas?

Even though the Bahamas requires international travelers to purchase the Bahamas government’s COVID-19 health insurance as part of their visa application, we strongly recommend that travelers purchase a trip cancellation insurance policy that provides additional coverage if something unforeseen occurs while visiting.  For a fraction of your trip cost, you can add extra protection that can be vital in case of an emergency.  Our Trip Cancellations policies also offer benefits for trip delay and trip interruption and on select plans, we offer the Cancel for Any Reason Benefit.

Do the trip cancellation plans from Trawick International cover COVID-19?

Yes, our plans treat COVID-19 like any other sickness. To learn more about how Trawick International travel insurance plans provide coverage for Covid-19 related concerns, please visit our COVID-19 FAQ webpage.

Optional Cancel for Any Reason coverage:

On select trip cancellation plans, Trawick International offers the hard to find Cancel for Any Reason (CFAR) benefit that provides reimbursement for 75% of the prepaid, nonrefundable, forfeited payments you paid for your trip if you cancel your trip for any reason not otherwise covered by this policy - like border closures or travel bans.  This coverage MUST be purchased with the initial policy and within 21 days of the initial trip deposit date, and the full, nonrefundable trip cost is insured. (This benefit is not available in every state).

How much does travel insurance cost?

Travel insurance cost is based on your age, trip cost, length of trip, and other factors. When purchasing a plan with trip cancellation, you should include all non-refundable travel expenses so you can recover the investment in the event your trip is canceled or interrupted.

When should you buy travel insurance?

To maximize your benefits, you should insure your trip within 21 days of the initial trip deposit date and include all prepaid, nonrefundable trip costs. You can still purchase travel insurance after 21 days, but you may not be eligible for time-sensitive benefits such as CFAR or Financial Default.

Does this plan cover mandatory COVID testing to reenter the USA?

Effective January 26, 2021, all travelers flying into the United States will need to show a negative COVID-19 test before reentering the country. Airlines will be responsible for confirming the negative test results for all passengers before they board a flight to the United States. The cost of this mandatory test is not a covered benefit under any of our travel insurance plans. If a traveler does not receive the test results in time, this would not be a covered travel delay/trip interruption benefit.  Travelers need to make sure to plan accordingly to make sure their results will be received before their flights are scheduled to depart.  In the event someone has a positive test, there could be travel delay coverage available to cover costs for additional accommodations due to quarantine.
