Eco-Friendly Travel Advice

Eco-friendly Travel Ideas

This summer managed to break several records on the heat index, which only reinforces the need to take into account the environment around you while you’re traveling. After all, tourism accounts for about five percent of the world’s carbon dioxide emissions per the UN’s World Tourism Organization. On top of that, the number of travelers continues to grow each year. In just the first four months of the year, nearly 350 million people took an international trip, an increase of more than five percent compared to 2017.

Traveling “greener” doesn’t necessarily mean staying at an eco-lodge or visiting a rainforest, it’s more about taking into account where you’re off to and why. You can begin by choosing to rent an electric vehicle during your next trip or staying at a hotel that’s LEED-certified, which means it’s designed for optimal sustainability.

The bulk of the travel and tourism industry's carbon footprint is made up of transportation. Choosing the most environmentally friendly method of getting around will depend on where you’re going, but you can take the time to evaluate your options. Would you be willing to take a train instead of a plane? Why not consider using public transportation to get to the airport?

There are simple things you can do to reduce your carbon footprint. If you’re okay with it, hang the “Do Not Disturb” sign on your hotel room door a day or two so that the staff doesn’t clean your room every single day, using up excessive energy. Simple steps like turning off the lights or the television when you leave the hotel room may seem small, but they play a huge role in becoming more environmentally conscious the next time you travel.

If you have any more tips on staying “green” while traveling, let us know in the comments! We would love to hear from you.

Travel Alerts vs. Travel Warnings

Travel Alerts vs Travel Warnings

In today’s climate, it’s not unheard of for the government to issue travel warnings and travel alerts. Depending on where you’re traveling to and what you’ll be doing while you’re there, it’s important to understand how these two differ as they could potentially affect your trip.

A travel alert is also known as a travel public announcement and is typically short in nature. These alerts are issued due to factors like events that are related to terrorism, an anniversary of a specific terrorist event, and political unrest. These alerts are usually accompanied by information regarding potential threats and short-term conditions that the government believes may affect American travelers and pose significant risks to their security. Travel alerts were recently issued due to the hurricane and typhoon seasons in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, the Caribbean, and the Gulf of Mexico.

A travel warning is considered more severe than a travel alert and means that the State Department is suggesting Americans entirely avoid traveling to a particular country because of instability, or when a U.S. embassy or consulate is closed, therefore reducing the U.S. Government’s ability to assist American citizens. The U.S. Department of State issued travel warnings back in April urging citizens to avoid travel to several states in Mexico due to increased crime threats and violent homicides. It’s important to note that warnings do not mean you cannot travel to the country in question, they are simply meant as safety or precautionary measures.

Are TSA Delays Covered Under Your Travel Insurance?

undefined

Probably everyone who frequently travels has dealt with some type of travel delay. With the increasingly stringent TSA requirements, one of the slowest steps in making it to your flight is having to wait in security checkpoint lines. These lines can take quite some time, especially if you are headed to a foreign country. It’s not an unusual circumstance to miss a flight because of a TSA delay or suddenly finding yourself unable to get on another flight because it’s already full.

So, you might be wondering whether such a delay will be covered under your travel insurance policy, assuming you purchased one. Unfortunately, a delay in your trip due to the TSA security check will not be covered by your insurance. A delay because of a mechanical breakdown in the aircraft? Yes, it’s covered. A hurricane that prevents or affects travel? It’s possible. To know exactly what’s covered, make sure you thoroughly read your policy coverage or contact our excellent customer service team who will be happy to answer any of your questions.

TSA delays do not fall under what the travel insurance industry calls “peril coverage” as there is nothing perilous about it. If you’re concerned about running into such a situation the next time you plan a long flight, the best way to avoid such delays is to arrive at the airport early and with plenty of time so you have more than enough time should unforeseen TSA circumstances arise or get TSA Pre and use the shorter lines at the airports. (This is a serious time saver especially if you travel frequently.)

Travel Insurance During Hurricane Season

This year's hurricane season officially began on June 1, 2018, and will end on November 20, 2018. That is half of an entire year that could potentially bring storms to the US, however, usually, August and September are the most active months. Hurricanes typically affect the Atlantic region, many countries in the Caribbean, and southern states like Florida, Louisiana, Alabama, and Texas.

If you will be traveling to any of these destinations during this hurricane season, travel insurance is not only a good idea but an essential part of your travel plans. We have multiple plans that can cover you this hurricane season.

To be eligible to be covered for a hurricane that will affect your travel plans, you MUST have purchased the travel insurance BEFORE that specific hurricane was named. Once it is named, it is already a foreseeable event and you will not be able to have any hurricane-related coverage. You could still purchase travel medical insurance to cover you while on your trip, but any kind of trip protection/cancellation coverage because of the hurricane will not work.

Our Safe Travels Single Trip plan would be optimal for trip cancellation coverage due to an unforeseen hurricane.

Here at Trawick International, we are proud to offer not one, but two travel insurance plans catered to Non-US Citizens traveling outside of their home country. Our Safe Travels USA Trip Protection and Safe Travels Multinational provide comprehensive coverage for financial reimbursement due to trip cancellation, interruption, trip delay in situations arising from conditions such as illness or bad weather and baggage loss and/or delay; medical insurance and medical evacuation for illnesses and injuries incurred while traveling; and emergency evacuation in the event of political unrest or natural disaster. These plans are ideal for anyone up to the age of 79 traveling on cruises, vacations, family trips, business trips, or general travel from 5 days up to 180 days. A pre-existing medical condition waiver is provided when the plans are purchased within 30 days of the final trip payment.

Safe Travels USA Trip Protection is for travelers whose trip itinerary includes countries outside of their home country, in addition to the USA. To view all of the benefits and additional coverage options for our Safe Travels USA Trip Protection insurance plan, please visit our website at https://www.trawickinternational.com/products/safe-travels-usa-trip-protection

Safe Travels Multinational is for travelers who are visiting countries outside of their home country, but NOT the USA. To view all of the benefits and additional coverage options for our Safe Travels Multinational travel insurance plan, please visit our website at https://www.trawickinternational.com/products/safe-travels-multinational-trip-protection

Both of these plans have additional coverage options that include an Emergency Accident & Sickness Medical Expense upgrade up to $1,000,000, Accidental Death and Dismemberment upgrade of up to $500,000, Athletic Sports Coverage (some sports are covered-see list on our site) and Home Country/Follow Me Home Coverage up to 60 days-prorated.

“There are very few, if any, US based Trip Cancellation plans for Travelers outside the US coming here to visit or traveling to any other country. There are even fewer plans that allow you to choose your medical coverage amount or that will cover you for more than 90 days. Our Trawick Safe Travels USA and Multinational Trip Protection plans do just that”, said Curt Carlson, Senior Vice President.

“The Emergency Accident and Sickness Medical expense benefit ranges from $50,000 to $1,000,000 and the ability to cover yourself for up to 180 days! Some Visitors to the US need minimal Trip Cancellation Coverage but a lot of Medical coverage while visiting the States. Our Safe Travels USA and Multinational Trip Protection plans provide what you need to protect you and your family for the high cost of the unexpected,” said Carlson.

We appreciate our valued partners who offer these plans to their international clients. Trawick International is proud to play a role that strengthens agent’s global business and increases their customer base. We make it a priority to provide the best service, not only to the agents, but to their clients as well.

Patena See, Vice President of Channel Development said, “As a global insurance provider, we are able to provide travel protection insurance for travelers all over the world. This is something many U.S. travel agencies and tour operators with a global client base have struggled to find a solution for as travel industry regulations have changed.  Trawick International’s travel protection is the solution to filling that gap for these companies. They can now offer travel protection to all of their clients not just some. This provides peace of mind to all parties involved in the travel planning process.”
